Early Life

Jennifer Joanna Aniston was born February 11th, 1969, in Sherman Oaks, California, United States. She is the daughter of the actor John Aniston, most famous for his role as Victor Kiriakis on NBC's Days of our Lives, and actress Nancy Dow. Her father was born in Greece but moved to the United States at the age of two while her mother was born in New York City to a family of Scottish and Italian descent. The family lived in Greece for one year when Aniston was a child before they later relocated back to the United States. Her parents divorced when she was nine and she was raised by her mother in New York.

Jennifer had her first developed a interest in acting at age 11 when she joined the 'Rudolf Steiner' School's drama club. She also received professional training as a drama student at New York's High School of the Performing Arts. In 1987, after graduation, she appeared in the Off-Broadway productions as For Dear Life and Dancing on Checker's Grave.

Career Highlights

In 1989, Aniston moved to Los Angeles and was cast in her first television role in 1990, starring as a regular on the short-lived series Molloy. She then appeared in two more failed television comedy shows, The Edge and Muddling Through before she was cast in the role of Rachel Green in the NBC sitcom Friends. The program was a huge success and Aniston, along with her co-stars, gained worldwide fame in the late 1990’s. She played the character from 1994 until the show ended in 2004 and received five Emmy nominations (two for Supporting Actress, three for Lead Actress).

In 1993 Aniston starred in her first feature film Leprechaun. Critically, the movie received very negative reviews but was a commercial success, and since its release has gained a strong cult following among fans of the slasher genre.

In 2002 she gained critical acclaim for her role in the low-budget drama film, The Good Girl, directed by Miguel Arteta, playing an unglamorous cashier in a small town. Aniston won a Teen Choice Award for Actress in Drama/Action Adventure movie for her role as Justine Last.

Her biggest box office success to date came in the 2003 comedy Bruce Almighty, in which she played the girlfriend of the title character Jim Carrey. The film took nearly $245 million at the box office despite being banned in many countries due to pressure from religious groups who objected to the portrayal of God, played by Morgan Freeman, as a visually ordinary man.

Aniston's 2004 film, Along Came Polly also did well at the box office after opening at the #1 spot. Aniston stars opposite Ben Stiller as free-spirited Polly Prince who reluctantly begins a romance with a professional risk assessor Reuben Feffer(Stiller). Despite the commercial success the critics were again unimpressed.

In 2006 Aniston alongside Vince Vaughn in the romantic comedy, The Break Up. The movie cast the two as a bickering couple going to war over which of them should keep their beloved condo after their separation. The film was much better received than some of her previous efforts and has grossed over $200 million worldwide. It has also been reported that a sequel, starring both Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, may be produced.
