Early Life
Jessica Marie Alba was born on April 28th, 1981 in Pomona, California. Her father, Mark, is of Mexican American descent and her mother, Catherine, is of Danish and French/Canadian descent. She has a younger brother, Joshua. Her father's Air Force career took the family to Biloxi, Mississippi, and Del Rio, Texas before settling back in California when she was nine years old.
As a child she suffered collapsed lungs twice, had pneumonia 4-5 times a year, a ruptured appendix, and a cyst on her tonsils. This isolated her from other children at school because she was in and out of hospital so often. She has also acknowledged suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder during childhood. Her health improved, however, when her family moved to California. At the age of 11 Alba took part in an acting competition in Beverly Hills to win professional acting classes. Alba won the first prize, and took her first acting lessons. She graduated from high school at age 16 and subsequently attended the Atlantic Theatre Company in New York City.
Career Highlights
Jessica Alba made her first appearance on film in the 1994 feature Camp Nowhere playing the role of Gail. Following a number of appearances in successful television shows such as The Secret World of Alex Mack (1994) and Flipper (1995), Alba was cast as the snobby high school student Kirsten in the 1999 Drew Barrymore and David Arquette comedy Never Been Kissed.
Her big break came when Hollywood legend James Cameron cast Alba as the genetically-engineered super-soldier, Max Guevara, on the FOX sci-fi television series Dark Angel. Co-created by Cameron, the series starred Alba, and ran for two seasons until 2002, earning her critical acclaim as well as a Golden-Globe nomination.
Her next big hit came in 2005 when she was cast to play exotic dancer, Nancy Callahan in Frank Miller’s and Robert Rodriguez’s noir film Sin City. Starring alongside Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen the film received enormous critical and commercial success going on to gross over $225,000,000 worldwide. Alba received a Saturn Award Nomination (Best Supporting Actress) and won a MTV Movie Award (Sexiest Performance) for her role in the film.
The same year she appeared in Fantastic Four as the classic Marvel Comics character Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. At the box office, Fantastic Four reached #1 with $56,061,504 in its opening weekend. By September 2005, the film had grossed over $330 million worldwide. Alba reprised the role in the sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007.
In 2008, Alba appeared in her first horror-film role in The Eye, a remake of the Hong Kong film of the same name and alongside Mike Myers in the comedy The Love Guru. She is currently on a break from acting following the birth of her first child. She is rumoured to be involved in the Sequel to Sin City which is anticipated to be released in 2010.
Personal Life
In 2004 Alba met Cash Warren, son of actor Michael Warren, while making Fantastic Four, the pair were married in Los Angeles in 2008 On June 7, 2008, Alba gave birth to a baby girl, Honor Marie Warren, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. The first pictures of Honor Marie appeared in OK! magazine, which paid a reported $1.5 million for them.
